Municipal Government:

Hemingford has remained a village by choice. The village of Hemingford has a chairman/board of trustees form of government. The board is comprised of John Annen Chairman and Trustees Jim Keegan, Dave Peters, Laura Klemke and Mike Long.

County Government:

Box Butte County has 11 precincts and is governed by three county commissioners elected by popular vote for four-year terms. The Box Butte County Courthouse is located in Alliance.

Law Enforcement:

Police Department - Hemingford employs a Chief of Police and two officers.
Sheriff's Department - The Box Butte County Sheriff's Department, located in Alliance, is staffed by 27 officers. Two deputies are available in Hemingford.
State Patrol - Troop E of the Nebraska State Patrol is headquartered in Scottsbluff and serves 11 counties. There are two patrolmen stationed in Alliance, 18 miles south of Hemingford, and one patrolman in Hemingford.  

Fire Protection:

Fire protection is provided in Hemingford by a 30-member volunteer fire department. Although the Rural Fire Protection District buys and maintains their own equipment, the District is operated by the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Department.
